Emergency Appendectomy
TechniqueLaparoscopic
Duration55 min
OutcomeSuccessful — no perforation
Urgent laparoscopic appendectomy performed for acute appendicitis diagnosed on clinical examination and CT scan. The patient presented with a 12-hour history of right iliac fossa pain with localised peritonism.
Intraoperative findings confirmed a severely inflamed appendix without perforation. The mesoappendix was divided using an energy device and the base ligated with endoloops.
Early intervention was key to preventing progression to perforation and sepsis. The patient was discharged on post-operative day two with a full recovery at one-week follow-up.
